What does Hanukkah celebrate or commemorate? What is the significance of Hannukah?
Why is Hanukkah important?
We all know the answer, right? We didn't have enough oil, but miraculously,
the oil ended up lasting a long time. Great, wonderful. But truth is, that miracle...
is kinda not a super big deal.
Passover celebrates a huge miracle - Exodus from Egypt. Shavuot, same,
receiving the Torah from God, at Mt. Sinai!
And all the other holidays follow suit. Except for Hanukkah, which is about...
extra-long lasting oil. Big deal.
Not to mention the fact that there are plenty of other miracles described in the Bible,
and they don’t each get their own holidays.
You might wanna say, no, we're actually celebrating that we won the war!
But that also seems kinda hollow.
Because that victory only lasted a generation or two, until we descended into chaos,
and we were overtaken again.
So, that can't be it either.
So, what's the REAL reason we celebrate Hanukkah?
What's the meaning of the holiday?
What is the spiritual purpose of this festival of lights?
